Acrylic nails can make your hands beautiful, but after you leave the salon, it’s up to you to keep them that way. Here are some tips to keep your acrylic nails in ‘tip’ top shape, pardon the pun.
Careful While Washing the Dishes
So many times, we’ve had to fix a nail for someone who scratched up her nails while washing the dishes. To protect them, wear a pair of rubber gloves while you wash up in the kitchen. Besides protecting them from scratches, it will also provide a barrier between your nails and potentially harsh chemicals.
Don’t Use Them As Tools
You may have the habit of using your natural nails to pry, but if you use your acrylic nails in this manner, you risk loosening them up, allowing water or other substances to get in underneath your nail. If that occurs, you may get an infection or the nails may lift.
Keep Them Dry
Water can get into the smallest of crevices, and this goes for your acrylic nails as well. After washing up or showering, make sure you dry your fingertips well, on top and underneath. Leaving these areas exposed to moisture may cause moisture to get underneath your nails. Again, once water or other ‘stuff’ gets underneath the nail, you are at risk of infection or the nails lifting.
No Acetone
This tip seems obvious, but we wanted to mention it any way. If you want to change your nail polish on your acrylic nails, then don’t use acetone; instead use a non-acetone polish remover to remove the polish. Acetone is what we use to actually remove your acrylic nails.
Keep Them Health
One way to keep your acrylic nails healthy is to put cuticle oil on them. Yes, on the nail. When you apply to your cuticles, rub it into your nails too. This will keep them from drying up and becoming brittle. You can achieve the same result if when you are putting on lotion, just rub a little bit into your nails.
We hope these ‘tips’ will keep your nails in good shape until your return to our salon for a refill or change. Take care!
All the Best,
Kimberly
